NOTE:
Each of the first four lessons that follow is designed in a modular format
that can be taught as a complete unit or as a single activity. If taught
as a unit, students will create a portfolio with images and writing that
shows the four steps they learned in manipulating digital images.
Photo Collage
The
lesson is designed to teach students how to find URLs and navigate to
relevant sites. This lesson will teach students how to create
their own individual folders. Students will learn how to cut and paste
images. Students will learn how to use the Printmaster Program. Images
from both Printmaster as well as the web will be used in this lesson
all images used must be copyright free. Students will create a photo
collage at the end of this lesson.
Composite
Image
This lesson is
designed to teach students how to create a composite page of multiple
images. Students will use related images to create an original
composite page. Students will work in the Microsoft PhotoDraw program
(or similar program). They will learn how to apply various features of
this program to their work to increase its level of sophistication.
Each student will gather images individually. Graphic image programs
as well as web searching will be used as a source for images. Students
will also learn how to scan photographs for inclusion in this lesson.
Same or Different?
This
lesson is designed to teach students how to manipulate digital images.
Students will work with pre-loaded images as well as images they take
themselves with a digital camera. They will analyze and write about
their work at the end of the lesson using complete sentences, correct
grammar and spelling. They will create a descriptive page with four
manipulated photos from the same original image.
Real or Symbolic?
This
lesson is designed to teach students about different types of images,
specifically the difference between realistic and symbolic images.
Both realistic and symbolic images will be gathered using ten
different objects to show an understanding of this concept. Each
student will individually discuss his/her Worksheet #1 with the
teacher to check for understanding. Students will support
their image choices in writing, using correct punctuation and sentence
structure. A final colored pencil drawing will be done using the final
image created by the student on the computer.
Printing from a Block
This lesson is designed to
take a high quality digital portrait; change that image into a high
contrast image using Adobe Photo Deluxe; transfer that image onto a
linoleum block; create a linoleum block self-portrait.
