Colorado Jig-Saw
|
This
lesson was designed to facilitate report writing for students with
special needs. Students
will access information from the web and incorporate it into a simple
visual poster. Students can
then use the poster as a springboard for oral reporting to the class.
This plan was developed as a culminating activity for a fourth grade
social studies class studying Colorado State history.
Each student is assigned a specific focus area from Colorado
history. Upon completion, the reports are then “jig-sawed” together
to get a complete picture of Colorado History.
However, this process can be applied to all grade levels and all
content area learning.

Research Paper
Lesson Power Point
|
In this lesson students will organize and write a research paper. The instructor will be using a Power Point presentation addressing the trait of organization using the six-trait model for writing instruction. The lesson was primarily developed for students with special learning needs although all students would benefit from the lesson. The students will be using the presentation to guide them through the process of writing a research paper. In this particular lesson the students will be researching the European
explorers; however, the presentation could be adapted for any topic at any grade level.

Transition Power
Lesson
Power Point
|
This
lesson was designed to allow students greater opportunity to participate
in their transition meetings between elementary and middle school
through technology. The
students will create and present a PowerPoint presentation highlighting
information they wish to share for a successful middle-school
transition.

Attendance Graph
|
This
lesson was designed as a culminating activity for third graders
investigating using graphs to communicate information.
In this lesson, students will track classroom attendance for one
week and present the information using different forms of graphing.
Because this is a comparative study, information will need to be
collected from several different classrooms.
Although this lesson was developed for tracking attendance, the
same lesson could be applied to fundraising activities, the number of
books read by a class, or any other data generating activity.
This lesson was developed for third graders, however it could be
applied to learners of any level. The
rubric attached to this document has been developed to measure the level
of independence in using the MS Excel program.

Program Pamphlet
|
In
developing the school vision plan it was decided that pamphlets be
constructed outlining the different programs offered by the school
district. It was suggested
that students be allowed to contribute to the creation of the pamphlets.
One of the programs to be highlighted is the Special Education Resource
Program. This lesson
will outline the steps used to assemble a pamphlet using MS Publisher.
This
plan is to be used with a small group (3-5) of students in grades three
to five as part of the Resource/Special Ed Program.
The lesson is designed too be taught in a “Pull-Out”
situation.
