The Mountain Plains Distance Learning Partnership in Colorado was awarded Star Schools funding for 2001-2002 to train up to forty teachers in the skills required to teach effectively using technology. Of those, twenty are being awarded laptops loaded with all of the software required to implement lesson plans in their environment. Instructors are being required to create and implement lesson plans that integrate technology while using project-based objectives. Some of the lesson plans offered here implement more concrete projects than others, but all attempt to get away from addressing standards in the traditional way. Project-based instruction has been proven to encourage greater participation among at-risk students. Project-based instruction does not ignore traditional academic topics, standards, and outcomes. Rather, it teaches students the application of those standards through activities that integrate them as projects evolve. Although lessons were developed for use in specific classrooms, many of the activities can be used or adapted for students of all ages. If a topic interests you, check it out, regardless of age group. All lesson plans listed include PDF and HTML files with complete instructions and handouts.
