What Is Astrology?

Astrology is one method of exploring ourselves and our relationships in the world. Some people do not like astrology. They claim that it gives you false information about yourself. This task will help you decide if it helps or not. Sometimes, knowing what is NOT you, helps as much as knowing what IS you.

Astrology has  been around a very, very long time. Astrologers work by taking a look at the heavenly influences acting at the time and place of your birth. Astrology is one way of looking at the starts and how they might affect you. Astrology can give you ideas to consider many situations. Those situations can vary from the personal to the most mundane.

A horoscope, or birth star chart, is a personal map; it records the planetary influences at the moment you took your first breath. The map of your character is as unique as your fingerprint. Astrologers say that the influences of the stars when and where you were born affect you all of your life.

Is Astrology a Science?

You might think of astrology like you do medicine. In the modern West, healing is based on science. That science is called medicine. It depends a lot on doctors, man-made drugs, and surgery. In some places, healers use other healing techniques: prayer, herbs, energy work, and more.

The science of space is called astronomy. However, some people believe that the energy of the planets and the starts affect people. That approach to understanding people is called astrology. Other people use psychology, psychiatry, anthropology religion to understand the self. Why not find out about all of them? The more you learn, the better choices you make!

Astrology is based on the belief that all things are connected. In Astrology, the world is more like a being than a thing. The world and its inhabitants are joined, like a body and its cells. The health of the one depends upon the health of others. What happens around us affects us deeply. If we understand what influences us, we understand ourselves better.

The Sun Sign

In Astrology, your Sun Sign tells you where the sun was placed in the Zodiac at the time of your birth. Most people know their birthday. From that, the Sun's position can be easily figure out.

Astrology divides the year into twelve months of around thirty days each. The Sun takes about thirty days to travel through each of the twelve astrological signs. That makes it easy to figure out your sun sign.

However, each of us is a lot more than just our Sun sign. Everyone's personality is a unique combination of influences. Those influences come from the Sun, the Moon and all the planets of the Solar System at the time and place of our birth. The moon and the planets each affect a part of ourselves.

Only a complete astrological study can give you all of the information about yourself. However, your Sun sign remains the center of your character.
